At Umbrella for the Needy, we believe that true resilience begins with care — care for ourselves, care for one another, and care for the communities we serve. In partnership with the East Africa Feminist Peace Network, we recently hosted a one‑day training designed to strengthen both personal and communal well‑being.

This gathering brought together 17 participants, including women‑led groups, staff, volunteers, and religious leaders. Each participant came with a shared commitment: to deepen their ability to support vulnerable communities and to amplify the values of compassion, service, and leadership.
Why This Training Matters
Conflict, displacement, and social challenges often leave communities carrying heavy burdens. By investing in self‑care and collective care practices, we ensure that those who serve on the frontlines — activists, caregivers, faith leaders, and volunteers — are equipped not only to sustain themselves but also to extend meaningful support to others.
The training emphasized:
Personal well‑being as the foundation for effective service.
Collective resilience, where communities thrive through shared responsibility and mutual support.
Faith and service leadership, highlighting the role of religious leaders in nurturing hope and healing.
Women‑led leadership, ensuring that women’s voices and initiatives remain central in shaping peace and care strategies.
Outcomes and Impact
By the end of the day, participants left with renewed energy, practical tools, and a stronger sense of solidarity. They are now better prepared to:
Integrate self‑care practices into their daily work.
Support survivors of conflict and displacement with empathy and strength.
Lead community initiatives that prioritize resilience and healing.
Amplify care through collaboration across sectors and faith traditions.
Together, we are building a network of empowered leaders who understand that care is not a luxury — it is a necessity for sustainable peace and community resilience.
Moving Forward
This training is just one step in our ongoing journey. As Umbrella for the Needy continues to partner with regional and international networks, we remain committed to nurturing spaces where care, dignity, and resilience flourish.
Because when we care for ourselves, we care for our communities. And when we care together, we amplify hope.
